Technologies
Curriculum
The below resource has been constructed based on the below curriculum statements
Design and Technologies Processes and Production Skills
-Investigate how forces and the properties of materials affect the behaviour of a product or system (ACTDEK011)
*Experimenting with available local materials, tools and equipment to solve problems requiring forces including identifying inputs (what goes in to the system), processes (what happens within the system) and outputs (what comes out of the system), for example designing and testing a container or parachute that will keep an egg intact when dropped from a height
Design and Technologies Knowledge and Understanding
- Investigate the suitability of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment for a range of purposes (ACTDEK013)
* Conducting experiments and tests to understand the properties of materials, for example strength, durability, warmth, elasticity
General Capabilities
Critical and Creative Thinking
Students will be required to create, test and review their own designs. They will have to problem solve and work collaboratively to produce the most effective design possible.
Literacy
Students will engage with literacy in the form of definitions and different activities throughout the unit and the booklet.

Student Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
-
Demonstrate an understanding of materials and their properties
-
Make judgements and predictions
-
Construct investigable questions
-
Justify construction/material decisions
-
Reflect/Evaluate construction decisions.
Resource Overview
This resources has been designed as a project booklet for students to complete in their technology unit. It can also be incorporated in their science unit aligning with the below content descriptor:
- Natural and processed materials have a range of physical properties that can influence their use (ACSSU074)
*selecting materials for uses based on their properties
The resource aims to allow students to work within a group and develop their own ideas with structured guidance. It enables students to develop their own ideas and hold ownership of their creativity whilst provided support from the educator. This booklet could also be used as a piece of assessment and could be accompanied with a rubric if desired.
The idea for the resource was sourced from the Australian Curriculum - Technology.
